    REMINDER THAT THE QCPH MONTHLY SOCIAL IS WEDNESDAY NIGHT! It will be at Me & Billy, 200 West 3rd St, Davenport starting at 6 p.m.

    Please consider being at your most charitable at this Social. The club is looking for donations in a few directions:

    -- The annual QCPH Golf Outing is coming up in June and what makes this event so successful are the hole sponsorships. Last year several parrotheads (single, couple of family) bought hole sponsorship and the signs on the course were tremendous! Hole sponsorships are either $50 or $100.
    The Golf Committee also is in need of NEW items that can be included in silent auction baskets. You can bring those to either the April or May Socials.

    This month's charity component is Hand in Hand. You do not have to donate to the charity to come to the social. Just as with the Golf Outing Charity, is an opportunity for you to do so. All items should be new items. Here is the list of things that they are in need of for their Summer Camp:

    1-2-3 SOCIAL! Reflection --   March '14

    What you were there for, what you might not have paid attention to,

     or what you wished you would have been there for

    (and didn't your English teacher tell you to NEVER end a phrase with a preposition?!?!?!?!)

    ~~~~/\~~~~~~~/\~~~~~~~~/\~~~~~~~~~~/\~~~~~~~/\~~~~~~~~/\~~~~~~~
    March 26, 2014 ............. Riverside Grill, State St., Bettendorf  .............. 80 (?) QCPHers in attendance.
    Charity Component: McAnthony’s Window. Parrotheads donated 800 items and another $100 in gift cards and cash. A big S-O-C-I-A-L for another tremendous night of giving!
    New members: Chuck & Kim Hersey and their daughter Jessica of Port Byron, and Darrell and Sharon Iossi of Bettendorf. Chuck is easy to spot – a big big man who will come in handy with 50-50s that offer tickets for a wingspan, as was the case at this Social. Jessica, by the way, turns 21 before the April Social, so we’ll have a special birthday to celebrate!
    50/50: Kathy Koester won the 50-50 that raised $430, and she earmarked the $215 to McAnthony’s Window.
    News you need now
    It was a special night, indeed, with the presentation of $30,000 – proceeds from the 10th annual Havana Daydreamin’, to the Honor Flight of the Quad Cities. Photos have been posted to the QCPH Facebook page. Again a big thanks to Jean Smith for chairing HDD and to all of the volunteers who made it the tremendous success that it was!
    News that was
    Riverside Grill was a great place to have a Social. The good was excellent and the service matched it. A special Social to Aubry, who somehow manages to remember all of her customers’ names, and the wait staff of Chelsea, Rachel, Janessa and Melissa. Nice job and a nice Social experience.
    News that will be
    QCPH’s Night at the River Bandits will be July 9. Tickets are $8.50 each. Make sure you mention that want the QC Parrothead ticket price when you order tickets.
    We have a date for the annual golf outing! It will be Saturday, June 21, at Saukie Golf Course in Rock Island, the post-outing party at the Plumbers & Pipefitters Hall. Stay tuned for details on volunteer possibilities and signup. T.J Griffith will be this year’s Golf Outing chairman – thanks TJ!
    Baseball season is getting close, and even though the annual Cubs-Cardinals bus trip is less than four months away – on July 26th – you want to think about getting your tickets now, or soon. Social Director Mike Koester says the bus has been filling up fast, so reach him at mkoe50@aol.com for the trip -- $100 for the bus ride, adult beverages on the way to the game and the game ticket.
    UPCOMING SOCIAL
    * Wednesday April 30 – Me & Billy’s, downtown Davenport. The charity component will be Hand In Hand, with donations of camp supplies.
    * Wednesday May 28– P.K. Dugans, East Moline. The charity component will be Quad City Greyhound, with donations of dog supplies.
    1-2-3 SOCIAL! Reflection --   February '14
    What you were there for, what you might not have paid attention to,
    (and didn't your English teacher tell you to NEVER end a phrase with a preposition?!?!?!?!)
    February 26, 2014 ...... Huckleberry’s, downtown Rock Island  ......... 65 QCPHers in attendance.
    Charity Component: Jason’s Box … QCPH members donated 425 items that will go to military men and women overseas. The No. 1 items donated? Dental floss. And area dentists thank you.
    New members: We had one new member, Marvin Hubbell of Rock Island. And here’s the cool story – T.J. Griffith saw Marvin walk into Huckleberry’s wearing a tropical shirt. Told her that he had read about the parrot head club and wanted to find out what they were all about. And became a member at this Social. Nice!
    50/50: We really missed Doug Smith and Todd Haugen, our usual 50-50 salesmen. Both were absent and were greatly missed.
    News you need now
    We have a golf outing chairman!!! Thank you T.J. Griffith for stepping and filling that important role! More information will be distributed soon on the formation of a Golf Outing Committee. The Golf Outing is our second biggest fundraiser of the year.
    Without a chair for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, it was decided the club would not enter. However, the deadline is March 1 for that entry submission, so if someone would like to step up and take on that responsibility, get with President Willy Fink very very soon, as in by Friday.
    We also need a chairman for the 2015 HDD, which will have a new date (March 28) and a new site (the Isle of Capri in Bettendorf). Lots of new and exciting details will be out soon on the 11th annual event, but the planning stages start now.
    News that was
    The 10th annual Havana Daydreamin’ fundraiser was a great success, and a check for $30,000 to the Honor Flight of the Quad Cities will be presented at the March Social. The 50-50 at HDD was the second largest ever, the Live Auction had the highest bid item ever and the PreParty had record ticket sales. Quite a night, indeed, and thanks to all who made it all possible. There will be a Volunteer Appreciation Party at Bad Boyz Pizza in Davenport on Wednesday, March 5 (which the announcer guy forgot to mention, but we’ll make amends here).
    News that will be
    The annual Cubs-Cardinals, or Cardinals-Cubs, bus trip will be July 26th. This bus trip has sold out every year the club has gone to Wrigley Field for this matchup. Don’t be shut out – get your tickets from Social Director Mike Koester at the next Social!
    UPCOMING SOCIAL
    * Wednesday March 26 – Riverside, a brand new bar on State Street in Bettendorf. At this Social we will present the HDD proceeds to Honor Flight of the Quad Cities. The charity component is McAnthony’s Window, which is connected to St. Anthony’s in Davenport.
    Here's just how AMAZING the QCPH's 10th annual Havana Daydreamin' Silent Auction was ...
    There were nearly 200 baskets between the silent auction and the sandbucket raffle. Between the two, the QCPH raised nearly $13,000 toward what will be donated to the Honor Flight of the Quad Cities.
    The top items? In order, they were:
    * A guitar signed by (Darius Rucker, Kellie Pickler, Katie Arminger, Lauren Alainia, Phil Vassar, Jarrod Neumann, Rodney Atkins.
    * Painted lifeguard chair.
    * 2012 John Deere Classic flag signed by champion Zach Johnson, with a John Deere tractor.
    * A St. Louis Cardinals basket with a Stan Musial statue, Musial commemorative ball, 2013 World Series tote and 2014 game tickets.
    * Corona bar and stools.
    * Moline Monument stone "Parrotheads Phlock Here."
    We send out a HUGE "1-2-3 SOCIAL!" for our silent auction chairmen, Jan Haugen & Marilyn Pulford, and their parrothead helpers --  Lisa Crandall, and  Anke Maass, and of course the guys, Todd, Craig, Denny and Duane, as well as all of the PH members who donated baskets and items.
    This auction is what all of those attending talk about for many many months afterward. It is the culmination of a six-month process that involves letters to 500 businesses. We can't say enough how proud we are of this auction and those responsible for making it such a success!
    Because of a software flaw, HDD ticket sales were unavailable online from midnight Thursday until about 5 p.m. If you attempted to purchase them that way and couldn't, please try again. The problem has been fixed. Thank you!
    Change of direction on the Friday Night Meet & Greet/Concert pricing -- It's going to be just $5 per person, not $10. Not going to deal with a 50-50. So, $5 per person. And it's BYOB/Snacks. Hope to see you all there! Holiday Inn, Rock Island, Social Room. 8-11 p.m. starting with the Meet & Greet with Tall Paul and Quincy Yeates.
